I pick whatever name I think suits how I made the Sim, or sometimes I think up the name first then make the Sim according to the name I choose. Usually in the latter it's part of a certain thematic, but if the former it's usually to create a random Sim. Even then, most of the names are usually basic or randomised, but names are rarely shared between another Sim.
