I usually use normal names, but I mostly play families so the names tend to stick to some sort of theme. For example, the Hamilton family that I play regularly have names that are traditional, royal-esque and somewhat stately like Elizabeth, George and Diana. However, sometimes I break that theme if the need calls for it. In the case of Jane Hamilton, naming her child in the traditional style of the Hamilton's didn't really fit her personality. She's a little bit wild, very independent and doesn't care about what others think much so she named her son Kyro, much to the disappointment of her parents.
But I do use a lot of names that have been inspired by mythology, nature, words and history. I tend to favour Nameberry when I'm looking for names with a similar feel. The namehunter tool on the site works wonders, especially when I'm stuck for a name.
