Everyone seems concerned that the game is going to become too taxing on our computers, but in my opinion the more urgent issue is the game becoming too taxing on itself. There are already so many stupid things that can lead to performance issues regardless of what type of computer you're playing on - Like having too many things in your inventory, or having too many relationships, or having a large tray folder. San Myshuno ran like garbage for the whole year that they took to fix it and it's still not even perfect. And the devs have already expressed concern over the game being able to handle things like large worlds going forward. The list of bugs is growing larger and the patches to fix them have been fewer.
That's why when I see people raving about how the game is going to go on for 4 or 5 more years and getting excited about that I'm like, yeah, okay. I have absolutely no confidence that it'll even be able to run 4 years from now if it keeps going at this rate. Hopefully something changes though.
Exactly! My oldest save is from 2017 and with my own gameplay coupled with the constant addition of generated sims and newly integrated packs that file is slowly but surely becoming unplayable. I get long pauses where my sims just won't do anything until I open up the menu or force the household into CAS. I have above average specs and play on middle settings with no cc or mods. My newer, less involved, saves don't have this issue. I am beginning to think saves are not meant to run beyond three generations or you're not really supposed to play rotationally.
