I always leave them sleeping. I think it was a thing in TS2. I make sure they don't have any needs that are easily catered to like hunger or toilet, or hygiene, in the very low red. Next time I play them they are fresh and spunky and ready to rumble.
Yes, it does save a lot of time in the next playing session
