It really depends on the household that I'm playing.
For example, in a pretty well-off/upper middle class sorta household, the butler will probably get a small en-suite bedroom in the attic or in the basement.
In a really grand/upper class sorta household, I would go the Downton Abbey route and have "staff quarters" complete with multiple bedrooms and kitchen/dining/living areas. This is to simulate having a butler, a maid, a cook and/or a nanny who all have to live together.
