I think the sims crowd has changed. I wasn't around but from what I know It seems older sims games and the players were more into comedy. As time went on it shifted and if you notice most players are now into realism, drama and seriousness. I see a continuous demand for more realism in sims on social media. And the stories I see or watch simmers make on YouTube or different places are usually centered around tragedies and serious topics.At least more than before.
People are also very very sensitive which is another reason I believe comedy has died. It's so easy for a joke or something said in a humorous way to turn offensive to someone FAST lol. And some simmers are probably afraid of loosing followers or the cancel culture if a joke is taken the wrong way. I witnessed a popular simmer (Very sweet person it seems) get "canceled" and chased off of social media for one funny thing she did in the game and shared and people took it the wrong way. I miss seeing her game play and posts. She saw the humor is everything and her game play always brought a smile.
I'm a very serious person myself in real life so I don't particularly like comedy but I can have a good laugh and appreciate the humor in things ?

That's a very interesting and insightful post. I've been with The Sims since Sims 1 and there was a lot of silliness and some comedy built in to that game. Of course The Sims is a spin off from Sim City 3000 which had its comedy rolling news as you played the game. I don't think the game was ever meant to be deadly serious but some gamers have gone in that direction. The beauty of The Sims is that it can be played (mostly) the way you want it. I see on the General Discussion forum that there are some very strong opinions about which way the game should go: Some want more supernatural gameplay and others want more gritty and dark realism. Some want it a family friendly game and others want it to go 15+ or even 18+. You can't please everyone.

I agree to a point that comedy in real life is dying...I won't say it's completely dead...and that the current social and political climate in many countries makes it hard to do comedy without receiving backlash. It's no wonder so many who try, with good intentions, find that backlash too much to handle and give up. Speaking purely for myself I plough on with my writing in my style and accept constructive criticism but I won't give in to a mob trying to cancel me. I will not be chased off social media either. I suppose that anyone trying to do that to me must not be a nice person and I learned a long, long time ago that you do not give in to a bully. But I empathise with those who are trying to be creative with good intentions to entertain and who are being hounded by those who have taken things the wrong way.
