Hmmm so they both have pros and cons. I like both equally so I couldn’t tell you which ones better per say.
Sims 3
Pros:
-huge new world
-diving is a skill with underwater lots
-hotel management
-houseboats
-lifeguard career
-many boat options
Cons:
-the world included is super buggy and has severe routing issues. The underwater lots in the included world also tend to crash. On a computer that plays 4 with all packs on ultra the world lags and stutters constantly.
-at this point in time it is hard to find a legit tropical world with these features included like dive lots and houseboats (tried a few months ago). You may have better luck that I did though.
-hotel management includes rabbit hole buildings for rooms and there are very few options.
Sims 4
Pros:
-conservationist career. One neighborhood on the island changes and goes through stages if you clean it up. You don’t have to be in the career to clean the island either.
-the world is incredible. In my opinion it’s probably the most beautiful world in sims 4. Aesthetically this pack nails it!!
-mermaids!!!! Sims 3 has them but I think 4s are better overall, it’s not really a pro or a con for 3 so that’s why I didn’t list it. They aren’t vampire level fleshed out in 4, but they are nice.
-minor cultural aspects included in game that are fun to mess around with (festivals, island spirits, friendly neighbors)
-amazing CAS and BB.
-it’s the only world currently where you can swim in sims 4. Swimmable areas are decent sized. Not a pro if you are comparing to 3 where every world is swimmable.
Cons:
-too many rabbit holes (diving, part time jobs like lifeguard and fisherman).
-not enough added gameplay to really be considered an EP (the gameplay added is good it’s just all little things, there isn’t a big new element added to the game other than the world).
-it is buggy currently. Not sims 3 bad but it has some issues as well. Hoping for fixes soon though.
I know my pros were short for 3 but figured it was all self explanatory it’s got some good gameplay for sure. Both have good and bad. Sims 3 is cheaper I believe but I don’t know if that makes a difference. Hope this helps. Good luck with your decision.
