@Kerrigan Then please prove me wrong. Is it or is it not true that you can copy files with just one click? When you buy a game digitally all it does is copy the files from the source to your computer. What you buy is just a copy that doesn't cost anything to make. "SimmerGeorge;c-17821953" wrote:

I just hope you can enjoy at least one of the packs, really. They're pretty cool and don't cost much. Sorry they're not free.- SimmerGeorge5 years agoSeasoned Ace

@Kerrigan Even if I find some kit I would like in my game I still won't buy it because I don't agree with this kind of marketing practice. But of course anyone who want to buy them is free to do so. I just know I won't feel good doing it and since they are pretty pricey for what you get then I really don't have to think twice. - childrenofhurin5 years agoSeasoned Hotshot

Of course there are ongoing costs. You mentioned before that advertising is just game footage, but you still need to pay for someone to make the trailers and other materials. I’ve also seen ads for the Sims on other places like YouTube and Facebook, that’s an ongoing cost. Server space is another ongoing cost. Customer service (I doubt customer service for these 3 kits will be a big burden, but the more packs and kits that are added will increase workload and staff requirements over time as a franchise grows). Bugs (and the potential for more bugs) are increasingly inevitable the more content is added, you need to pay people to work on those as new content is created.
There are other more ‘invisible’ ongoing costs too- even specific gameplay often isn’t a one-time effort. Take seasons for example: seasons were added and paid for once when the seasons EP came out. But every new world created must be made compatible with seasons, which requires more work in the future, that’s an ongoing cost. And that goes for virtually every new gameplay feature, more work will have to be done to make future packs compatible. Every EP needs an increasingly large amount of budget in order to work with previous features.
To return to your pizza analogy, if I go and order a pizza, and then the next day I order a different pizza, the staff making it don’t have to sit down and work out if it will be compatible with every other pizza I’ve ever eaten. - SimmerGeorge5 years agoSeasoned Ace@Childrenofhurin I'm not saying there are no costs to running a company. I'm just saying there are a lot less costs when the product you are selling isn't physical but digital and can be copied instantly and free of charge.
Advertising can be costly but again EA tends to overdo it with advertising hence the overpriced packs. But servers and customer service for a company like EA and a franchise like the sims are really ridiculously low costs. There are indie developers who own servers and have customer service.
With the Kits there is also not any more work to be done in the future. Maybe a tweak or two but in general nothing big.
If you order a pizza the next day though the staff will have to use new ingredients, and take time to cook it and deliver it to you. The also pay rent (equivalent servers) and have to advertise and have to pay staff etc.
But focusing on the products again and not anything else, the digital copy is by miles cheaper than the physical product. - childrenofhurin5 years agoSeasoned HotshotMy point is that consumable ingredients are only ever a part of the cost of producing a product. There are many costs in selling a product, just because none of them are physically consumable doesn’t mean that distributing and supporting a product that’s already made is cheap.
- I'd love to see an official breakdown of how well each pack sold on day 1. I'd guess Bust the Dust was the winner, followed by Country Kitchen, and then Throwback Fit.

@Childrenofhurin It does mean it's cheaper than a physical product because these costs are non-existent. It's not just the ingredients, it's also the time of production which in a digital game is instant and the delivery costs and time which in a digital game are free and instant as well.
This is why you can't compare physical products with digital copies of products like many people attempted. They are just two completely different things. - texxx785 years agoSeasoned AceI just had something like 5 hours of fun with bust the dust. I love gameplay that embraces the whole game, like the weather in seasons...
