Libraries and restaurants.
I like the comforting feeling that libraries bring and find it makes me care more about my sims if I have them use the libraries' computers until they have enough money to buy their own (which usually doesn't happen until quite later on). Reading there and playing chess, drinking coffee at the cafes I usually include on the lot etc, just makes me happy.
Restaurants are my favourite social lot, firstly bc who doesn't love food, and secondly bc the lot type is so flexible. I often make hybrid restaurant lots, ex. performance dining (singing/instruments/comedy), spa and high tea, arcade and grilled cheese etc. Sims get to know each other nicely while sitting down and having a meal, and can enjoy the activities I place alongside as well.
The other lot I probably use most, is generic - to pretend that the lot is a resort/b&b so my sim can travel around the worlds.
