To make it easier to answer, here's a list of official lot types:

Bar
Beach
Café
Generic
Gym
Karaoke
Library
Lounge
Museum or Arts Center
National Park
Nightclub
Park
Pool
Restaurant
Retail
Spa
Vet Clinic

And here are some unofficial lot types that people often create:

Bowling Alley
Graveyard
Movie Theater
Skating Rink (roller or ice)

Parks, nightclubs, and gyms are the ones I visit the most.
Sometimes libraries, vet clinics and restaurants.
Very occasionally spas and pools.
Ive never found a reason to visit a retail store. I don't see the point of them.
