  • The .save file of a certain slot is always the newest version, the save.ver files of the same slot are older versions. The .ver files can be used to restore a save if something is wrong with the .save. file.

Once I discovered the updated Road to Fame mod wasn't working in my game, I sought help from the creator's Discord site. I ended up having two 'techs' help me discover just what the problem was. My game save was rather old, and even though I used the "Save As" option with each gaming session (only to 'save' throughout that session) my save was corrupted. I attempted to use a brand new Sim in a fresh game save to test the mod. Mod worked just fine. However, when I tried it on the older save, it appeared my main Sim was corrupted. With this discovery, I foolishly went on a delete rampage. In the process, I didn't take a moment to upload my newest builds to my library. I made a backup of my Sims 4 document folder, pulled the folder from my game and started fresh.

Even so, the builds didn't show up in the old Tray. At least I had an older version of one of the builds. But, I can't find copies of some of the venues I'd taken from the Gallery. They're either so deep in the list of builds, or they've been pulled by their creators. Suffice it to say I'm up a creek without a paddle. And not a happy soul over it, either.

As for ditching older saves, I wouldn't remove all of them. Being able to go back a save or two to avert the impending tragedy is something I'm glad I could do. I tried to play out the ensuing scenario after the double tragedy, (my Global Superstar's sister and her husband died emotional deaths at the star's Charity Event, leaving him in charge of his toddler twin nephews). His girlfriend was less than helpful and things were going from bad to worse. One of the twins refused to eat despite how hangry he was. I was certain Social Services would take the wee boys. My star's career was crumbling and it was just a very unhappy gameplay. I ended up being able to go back not one, but two saves to restore order.

Just move cautiously, if you decided to clean out your saves folder.

.ver are previous versions of your save. Saves titled ".save" are the current version and should not be deleted. You can delete the old .ver files, if you are very sure you don't want backups of the save, but you really don't need to. The game only keeps the previous 5 save points (.ver0 to .ver4) and will overwrite the oldest ones in order, so you'll never have more than 6 save points of any one save file, unless you start doing save as, but that creates a whole new save file/number.

to clear up space and lessen the lag in my game. It's perfectly fine to do this, I've done it before but it's been a while. I forgot which was safe to delete. I also delete other folders that just waste space and cause lag.
