Which Supernatural pack should I get?

I'm thinking of getting either Vampires or Realm of Magic but I don't have a clue on which one to buy so I was wondering which one you guys think is best and which you get the most use from!
I kinda like the sound of realm of magic bc of the whole realm area but also I've heard that the worlds kinda lame and then I also like the dark spooky vibe of the vampires world but ive never seen any review of it so I'm torn between them so you guys' feedback would really help

  • I personally prefer ROM over Vampires. I say this despite agreeing that Vampires are more robust, more powerful (depending on how you define "powerful") and have a more challenging perk progression. But they also require, for me, a certain mindset that I just don't find entertaining to play for extended periods of time.

Spellcasters may have a ton of cheats as regular abilities, and some are overpowered, but they're not as ... well, gloomy. And many of the features others love about vampires, I see as ... well, not something to love. (For example, the deadened emotions trait. I like my sims to love and be inspired and want to get up and go and be playful. Being Fine all the time strikes me as dull. But others seem to prefer it when those pesky emotions don't get in the way.)

I also happen to love Art Nuveau as an aesthetic more than Gothic Victorian, so on an aesthetic level, Realm of Magic appeals to me more as well. I don't find Glimmerbrook any less developed than Forgotten hollow, personally... well, except for the lack of lot traits relating to magic. And again, it isn't gloomy.

Vampires is my favorite from these two game packs. I love the whole pack, the dark atmosphere of Forgotten Hollow is great and vampires themselves are very well made.
RoM is nice pack too, but I don't know why I can't get the right feeling of witches and warlocks when I play with spellcasters. I was very excited when this pack came out, but now I just feel a bit let down.

This is exactly how I feel. They feel more like "regular" sims with a bit of magic but they definitely don't feel occultish or witchy lol. Maybe that's why I can't get into them no matter how hard I try. ? I'm very Dissapointed.
  • Agreed with the witch disappointment. The problem with RoM is that most spells aren't magical, fantastical feats. They're just cheats for mundane things, or recycling things we already have. And most of the time, they don't even have cool effects to make them feel special - food just appears, broken objects are just fixed, revived sims just appear without fanfare. Broom-riding is just teleporting, familiars do nothing, magic duels all look the same.

Vampires feel more special and unique. You can immerse yourself more with them, you can customize them way more than you can with witches, they have a lot of cool powers (some of which are shared with witches, if watered down heavily), and they even have dark forms to open up a huge avenue of CAS options.
  • There are a few ways to compare the packs.

    Theme/feel of the pack.
It really depends on your personal preference. Do you prefer immortal, blood plasma drinking creatures of the night who can burn to death in the sun or sims with regular needs who can wield wands and brew potions. It is possible to play a 'good' vampire but playing an occult who tries to overcome his bloodthirsty nature isn't the same as playing an occult without the need for plasma in my personal opinion.

The worlds (because they are specifically mentioned by the op)
both worlds have 5 lots and are comparable in size. Both are quiet, remote towns with little to do outside of the lots. The vampire World is dark and gloomy. Glimmerbrook looks really nice, located in the middle of a forest. The houses in Glimmerbrook are badly built but this can easily be fixed by renovating them or downloading renovations from the gallery. Realm of magic additionally offers the 'hidden' magic realm with it's own unique feeling.

    Gameplay :
Vampires are more balanced when it comes to the perks. The weeknesses add a real challenge and can help making different kinds of vampires. Vampires are also highly customisable and you can play them with or without a dark form. What I don't like is the sun resistant perk being so high up the perks, you need to play your vampire for a while before they can overcome their weakness for sunlight. Spellcasters also have perks but unlikely vampires your spellcaster can earn all perks and become immune to curses. The spells are also easy to learn.
I really enjoy playing spellcasters but I deliberately make sure I don't overpower them by not unlocking all perks. I also limit the use of the copypasto spell and the plentiful needs potion because they do feel cheaty.

    CAS and BB
Both packs offer great items in both CAS and BB. I have a personal weakness for the art nouveau items in RoM but I also use the vampire items a lot in the houses of my sims.

All in all I prefer spellcasters because I am not a big fan of gloomy, dark themes even if the vampire pack has more depth gameplay wise. It is up to you what matters more (theme, gameplay, world) to make up your mind.
  • 1. Vampires for the cool vamp powers & dark village.
    2. Realm of Magic for the cool spellcaster powers & the beautiful enchanted forest vibe.
The Vamps & Spellcasters are fun to turn sims into hybrids with the codes.
  • I actually Love Glimmerbrook, more than the Magic Realm.

The Realm of Magic's Build/Buy Content is kind of lame, I still haven't found a use for anything save the cauldron is the only necessity object, and the broomstick as more of just a Kitchen clutter. Depending on what you're going for Vampires + Get Together + Romantic Garden + Dine out are the packs I tend to pull from when I'm putting together a home.

CAS wise, There are some neat accessories in RoM

Magic as a whole, let's Just say I'm constantly searching for More Spell Mods, Spell/Tome/Potion Rename/Retexture Mods.
