My theory is that Johnny is the OG Malcolm Landgraab. He didn't want to follow in his parents' footsteps and wanted to become a comedian, which lead to them disowning him. He then changed his name to Johnny Zest. The Landgraab legacy has to continue, though, so they cloned Johnny (by maybe using one of his hairs or forcing him into the cloning machine) and the result is the teenaged spoilt brat that lives with the Landgraabs now.
