What has the medical examiner discovered on the body? Any scratch marks? Fang marks? Could the pool just be a way to throw the investigator off?
This next one may seem a bit far-fetched but...
You said Morgan was dealing with some stuff in Forgotten Hollow. Maybe she and Alex wanted to relocate to Windenburg. The sisters have never been really close. Worried she would be exposed as a vampire, maybe Morgan fled to her former residents. She grew a little thirsty, and decided to kill two birds with one stone.
The autopsy said frozen to death. But the pool steps were missing. I think if Morgan really wanted to move back, she’d move there now. She seems happy with Alex in Forgotten Hollow.
