@PHOEBESMOM601 thanks for the response and clarification - Your initial postings just struck me wrong but after you clarified it makes a lot more sense, and in case it wasn't clear on my end, I agree that the level of adjustment to both fires and aliens were drastic, over the top, and unnecessary.
However the reason they were adjusted at all was not just that people were complaining to complain, it's that there were legit issues with both features to begin with.
There were many save files sent and bug complaints filed for the fire thing - turns out the issue was never the chance frequency of fire at all- it was that the object slots on top of the mantle piece were within the cone radius of fire thus causing frequent nearly nonstop fires for players who had objects on the mantle. The fix should have been to simply adjust the cone radius so that objects on mantles wouldn't start fires - it went further than that and reduced the frequency of fires in general.
Sigh.
Again I totally agree the current level of alien abductions is way way waaay to low. I recreated the curious brothers from ts2 and didn't upload them to the gallery until I had Pascal properly alien pregnant. I had to turn aging off, and play for several hours with the sole intent being his abduction before I managed it. That should not be.
Again, however, pre-patch there was a legit issue for many players where abductions were nonstop for sims who did none of the things that would normally increase abduction. The sims were abducted every night, got not sleep, were constantly uncomfortable from being perpetually pregnant and I can understand where players who wanted aliens sometimes but not all the time were very frustrated with this. I understand what you are saying about the people who didn't want it should have modded it out rather than the devs removing a selling feature, however to me this rises to the level of the feature was broken to begin with. It was never intended that aliens would abduct the same sim every night, so it did need to be reduced. Should it have been reduced to the point that people attempting to get their sim alien abducted are struggling to make it happen? No absolutely not!
You shouldn't have to mod back in features that were there to begin with, but neither should others need a mod to fix those same broken features. In my opinion the low fire rate and low abduction rate is as much of a bug as the object on mantle fire issue and the too high abduction rate and it should be on the developers to continue to improve and fix this.
