Who nerfed kitchen fires and when did this happen?

I really don't like that 'feature' at all! I was trying to make sort of a naturalist Sim. The only skills I wanted her to have were gardening, fishing, cooking, and handy. Well, I took my eyes off her for a second while she was zoning, and before I could stop her, she had the flipping phone in her flipping hand, and - BOOM - video game skill.

Well if they are standing in water and have the front open and are working on electric wires fixing it, then they should at least get shocked if not fried. No one stands in water fixing electrical appliances and are safe. It was scary in sims 3 if that happen. but nothing happens to them in sims 4, fixing Tvs or anything is safe. It not that I want my sims to be electrocuted but a little excitement would help, everything is predictable. no harm and now we know, so we are not surprised at all.

It is more la la land where nothing bad happens. We need more suspense, excitement, the un-expectance.

The teens don't bother me as much as other things but I had forgotten about curfews....and of course the police won't pick them up because we only have the detective career.....no NPC police.

Agree. I hate the skills by osmosis. Even in the Sims 3, they'd start getting social networking skill the first time they pulled out their cell phone (which was forced on us) and it seems to have gotten worse in Sims 4.

I play all my sims as unique individuals and don't, under any circumstances, want them all gaining the same skill. Especially a silly one that clashes with their "sim story". I really wish there was a way to suppress certain sims from gaining certain skills.

This mod lets you prevent skills for certain sims from ever happening! I too hate how in Sims 4 you have to interact with something for 1 second and they gain first bit of skill.

You also have to keep in mind that as times change, certain things become less acceptable. I think it was simguru lyndsay that said they want to add more mature and darker themes, but they just can't get away with it as easily as they once could.

Even if you exclude the part where I mentioned the previous Sim games, the first and last sentences on my previous response still have a point. Objectively, there are many Teen rated games on the market that exceed TS4 in terms of mature content and themes, especially violence. What content in The Sims 2 or 3 do you think would threaten The Sims 4 with a Mature rating if implemented?

The Make Out on the couch in TS2.
The Thumbs Up to Camera when a Sim sees two other Sims woohooing.
The Poking finger in the chest of other Sims and annoying them by flipping the other Sim's nose. Taboo now.'
The Director telling the Sim to get out and never come back because they can't sing, dance, or model, or act. It would break too many teeny bopper hearts..too mature and harsh for TS4. The Sims Super Star EP.
Sleeping in the same bed, in TS4 Sims sleep with a divide between them in the double bed, we have returned to Lucy and Ricky days where people couldn't been shown cuddling in bed. Notice the divide line in the full bed in TS4. Why was that even developed?
Kids catching on fire in TS2...I had many kids who caught on fire..imagine the horror of TS4 players.
The Epidemic of the Hampster Flu in TS1 killed many Sims. The Flu epidemic in TS2..TS4 players would be shocked how fast it can spread and kill Sims.
The lock up of Sims who got caught in TS3, and had to go to jail for hours on end, non playable while in jail..no just too mature for TS4.
The explosions in WA that could kill Sims, the end, that would be too devasting for young minds.
Lecturing Sims...no, that is too much like real life and mommy scolding me, it's too mature for TS4. It looks too abusive for a parent to scold a small child pointing finger and counting the things wrong on their hands. The horror!
The Death By Flies just because of too many dirty dishes..omg no, don't eat my Sims in TS4! lol
The Burglar, it's too realistic and horrific for my eyes to see Sims get their homes broken in by bad Sims. No. It's too mature.
Police Cars and Sirens coming to take away Sims (TS1, TS2, TS3) omg, no, it's too sureal and too mature.
Killing beds and vending machines..just no, that hurt my heart to see a Sim get killed by a falling bed or vending machine, patch it now! TS3.
The falling satalites in TS2 and TS3..boohoo, my Sim got killed...don't take my Sim because I was silly and let them stay out there too long cloud watching.

The Sad Clown, it's too cruel to make him cry and make my Sims cry and never get any sleep.,..torture.
Starvation, oh no, it's too horrible for me to see Sims begging me for food, looking up at me, TS4> don't worry we just pull magic food from our butts and never starve.

Drowning because someone took the ladder, TS4 no worries our pools aren't that deep we just crawl out.

I have a thousand more of how childish (and sanitized) TS4 has become.
Ultimate offense, the cage dancers..would never be added to TS4 'vision'. ETA: Think about it, players are upset TS4 Sims get mad when they find out someone is an alien...and demanded a patch to change that because they were not all inclusive to an alien...think about that how sanitized this game is becoming and those who play it.

Final thought before I get accused again of trying to up Phoebe's like numbers for this thread..as happened in Forum Feedback...when I didn't even know this thread had been resurrected, for those who think you are playing reality, not, you are playing Utopia.

If you're going to answer a serious question, especially from someone like me, you shouldn't use hyperboles and logical fallacies. You've definitely let your hatred of The Sims 4 go to your head.

TS4 is targeted towards children or very young teens, that's why it's so boring compared to TS2 and 3. Remember how raunchy it was? How dramatic and messy it was? Cheating actually had consequences. You'd get slapped. It was easier to die, and it was harder to keep things in check and running. That's what made it enjoyable. Burglars, fires, meteors... dangerous things. They're all gone in TS4 because it's targeted towards kids - and it sucks. TS4 has a fanbase with a huge chunk that is players who have been playing since 1 and 2 and are grown by this point. We shouldn't neglect new and younger players, obviously, but come on... Even when I was a little kid and played TS2 and got scared when the burglar came... I still loved it. It sucks what they've done with 4. They've... dumbed it down. It's a life simulator, it's not supposed to be a perfect utopia.
