Why deliberately avoid matching cabinets and kitchen furniture?

I just want some more wood counters for the base game, cheap ones. I can't stand that "modern" plastic looking one when making starter homes. Seriously, what even is that? I've never seen a counter made out of plastic in real life, it's the one with the most swatches btw.
Also there's a lonely counter in GTW with no cabinets or island. ?
