Personally I prefer the white of the cabinets, as it’s really white, while the counters are greyish.

And it ALL boils down to laziness. Because that's the only reason other than deliberately making them not match.
The reason is that they have lazily not changed the surface on one of the items so it is more reflecting than the others, and just added the same color value on top.
So, again, laziness 100%. OR again they are DELIBERATELY making things not match.
