I always playtest mine, because I make them for my Sims to live in, not just to share. It is certainly a good idea. There's nothing more disappointing than getting a lot you think looks cool and realizing you can't play it. I rarely download other people's lots, so if I do, it's because I didn't want to build it myself (and don't want to fix it).
