Possibly unpopular opinion: I like that the packs bring in that element of death, even if I am bothered when it happens sometimes. In fact, I hope they don't continue to nerf the deaths like they have nerfed other things in the game (abductions, vampire feedings). I miss the days when Vladdy-daddy or some other vampy creature would come feed upon my sims, even if it's an "inconvenience". And, I love it when aliens finally "land" in my saves. I may like realism for the most part of my games, but I live/play for those moments of excitement and chaos as well.
