For me, I don't hate it, but I don't love it either.
My main currently does live in San Myshuno, in a penthouse ... it is actually way cheaper than any house I have ever owned in the sims world. I love the lot traits, the ability to give keys. I like to have siblings/elder parents to all have a key to the house, close family friends so they all can just come on over and come on in on their own. I love the singing skill. The festivals are okay ... I actually like the geek one. I for one, do love the variety in all the added foods, and the return of asian dishes and chopsticks.
They did drop the ball. We should have been able to create our own buildings. We should have been able to place apartments in any city and not be restricted to San Myshuno. If they would have made those available, it would have been a success. But since we can't edit public spaces, can't build what we want or make our 'neighborhoods' how we want, it is hardly a must have.
I do recommend it to people, if they can catch it on a good sale.
