Why does everyone hate city living?

Wow, I come to the forums every day. Mostly, I stick to General Discussion, unless I have a specific question regarding Gps/EPs or SPs. I haven't heard the vitriol of which you mention. I purchased CL, not because I wanted apartments, but rather, because it had elements I missed from Sims3. The painting, but mostly the singing. My Sim now sings like a bird. I haven't yet had him paint on that wall, but give me time. I enjoy the festivals. In fact, I was very happy to be able to get my Sims' hands on a tomato, which I haven't found anywhere else all of this time. Now, it's planted in her garden. :) As for any lag, I'm not experiencing it.

I don't hate City Living buts it's not an EP I use much other than I used the flea market table all over other worlds for yard sales for poorer Sims. That was/is a great feature to be able to do that. Once you go to the festivals it's not something that keeps calling you back, wouldn't you agree? There are no random events at the festivals that might make it worth returning to get different prizes or other things to do than what you already did. It's better to visit them with a different Sim each time than to use the same Sim over and over to go to the festivals over and over. That's an honest critique of what the EP offers. Then there are the apartments...I loved AL in TS2 (hated the reputation system it added) because it opened my game up to build duplexes, (already doing that with the Uni Myne Door years before) condos, trailer parks, high rises, open or closed breezeway buildings etc. It opened up a limitless way to play with all sorts of type of buildings. What did CL do? confine my imagination. Granted I like the streets and the background noises, the views, however, it's still not the busy, bustling city I had dreamed about and it certainly isn't the freedom for me to build my own...that is a huge -10 points just for that.

Another -10 for how it makes me look 'down' on available apartments as if I'm in some ipad game...jarring and annoying.

My game crashed after Sherlock (months ago) had lived in an apartment for two days. Then we got toddlers and I put a single Mom and her two toddlers in an apartment...it crashed. Lag all over the place. That EP has some real issues.

I dont have lag in city living but I just feel almost kind of claustrophobic when I play.

It's ironic that the EP I was most excited for with this iteration is the one that had me saying enough is enough and loading back up the sims 3.

Oh yeah, the noisy neighbors. EVERY night in the apartment on my current game. You'd think they would get the hint after i've had to bang on their door for the dozenth or so time. Again, I wish for an option to call the police in the Sims or at least lodge a complaint with the landlord and have the people booted out if they continue disturbing everyone.

I'm not forbidding or allowing anything on these forums. I'm not a mod or someone with the kind of administrative powers to allow or forbid anyone from saying anything. I was responding to someone who was suddenly feeling discouraged by what she was hearing in this thread and telling that person to take the claim that "everyone hates CL" with a grain of salt. That's all. Just giving my opinion.

Before City Living launched and it's limitations were already being announced I admit I was one of those Simmers that actually quit The Sims 4 because I became fed up over the limitations! In my eyes The Sims 2 Apartment Life became more superior then City Living due to more intuitive gameplay such as building your own apartments (need cheats to do this though), you can place apartments in any neighborhood, you had NPC roommates, etc. All of which is not even possible in a game released in 2016 yet it could happen in 2008 so to a lot of us the expansion yet again like base game took many steps back for the sole purpose of a good look. However, for me while I initially did not intend on returning to The Sims 4 at all after this I eventually did fall in love with what it did offer as I started looking at the positives such as lot traits, more interactions with neighbors, festivals, fireworks, apartments (still good despite lack of customization), beautiful neighborhoods with new lots, singing skill, penthouses, etc

I do not hate it but I feel it is just a reiteration of TS#3 Night Life, with a lot of abilities left out. I have tried it a few times but I cannot get into the experience. The fairs are fun but other than the fairs, which are small, and a few buildings to meet in, there is nothing I can see to do. Very limited.

It introduced a new "feel" to the game and I liked the festivals.

I love the new City Life.. I do have a few things I wished could be a bit different or improved..

I had expected balconies on every apartment so that is a nagging disappointment.. I tend to move them till they can afford an apartment with a balcony...

The noisy neighbors can be annoying but I noticed if they are trying to write or sleep it interferes the most.. I have sent my Sims down to the street to do things during the time frame and back up when they are quiet.. The one thing I did to avoid that was move my Sim into an apartment set that has only 2 apartments and moved out the other family.. Its quiet since there are no neighbors..

I do have frustrations because every apartment I wished it was a square or 2 wider.. But deal with it and play. Sims that previously had big houses, I just move into the penthouses and move walls.. :)


I do wished there was a city garden and few blank lots for other venues from previous expansions, so that is a bit frustrating.. but for the expansion itself I wished all the careers had the same work at home option or partially follow them.
