Well, I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. I want to love it, but it doesn't flow the way I want it to. For reference, I really, really loved Sims 2 Uni.
I think it has to do with a couple of things. First, rotational play isn't as easy with DU as it was in TS2. In 2, I used to have Sims in multiple dorms in every semester so my campus was full of my Sims. That way, when I played one of the dorms, they had a full household and could invite another dorm over for a party and some ruckus. But with DU, there's so much weight on the school schedule that I can't freely jump around and play whatever household I want and pick things up where I left them. It's harder to manage my Sims' grades while still being able to play all of them at some time or other and allow them time to party and meet up, even when I only enroll them in two classes per semester. Which brings me to my other main issue...
There's too much serious studying and focus on the actual grades and not enough on the fun party college life. In Sims 2 they were always up too late, hooking up, having dance parties, drinking from the juice keg, and socializing in between studies. I feel like my Sims now are more boring at Uni and don't automatically use the bubble blower or attract to each other. They do illogical or annoying autonomous actions instead that waste time and just make the experience frustrating, like running around getting water, or disappearing outside on the grounds to chat up some stranger who doesn't matter or nap on a bench. Sometimes they don't even make it to class on time and I'll find them standing outside the rabbit hole being useless. In TS2, it's like they had instincts for not only going to class, but finding fun activities and doing them together so they were more fun to leave alone, but in TS4 they continue to be nonsensical and predictable and carbon copies of each other in behaviors.
I suppose it's just the way the Sims themselves are programmed, but they really need some individuality. If we were to get some kind of attraction and romance system with preferences and behaviors, then I might enjoy the Uni experience more and find it worth the hassle. But college is supposed to be the wild years and I want to see that play out so it's disappointing when they won't get juiced or go on a bubble high on their own or go streaking or do anything out of the ordinary. They're too happy and well-behaved.
