Why is the outside/inside so dark?

It rains in my game so much I'm waiting to see if Noah in his ark comes floating down the canal! The skies are gray, and so is the world below it. Seriously, almost every single day in the Spring rain pours on my neighborhood and it's mostly cold. I don't think turning it off is an answer, either, as I may as well not have Seasons installed, since there would be no change. Terminal summertime — my least favorite season, by the way.
