Why is the outside/inside so dark?

My Henford Game goes from ok to dim to darkish. I'd say that is the only thing that really bugs me about that pack. I wish they had toned down the gloomy side of it. Sometimes it's almost like Forgotten Hollow, which is also waaay to dark for my taste. Winter in Henford is so dim it becomes depressing.

Adjusting the computer doesn't help since it goes back and forth so much; I don't want to be constantly changing computer settings just because it is raining again.
