I was thinking the same thing! Being a person who loves to write, I would be thrilled if I got to be the director instead of the actor. And as @liliaeth said, we can already build our own sets so why not take that extra step and let us be the director? I had a similar problem with Dine Out. I wanted not only to own my own restaurant, but to work there as a chef or waiter as well. Why do they keep limiting our options?
Directors are not usually the writer - the screen writer is a different job and actually something you can do in a game under the writer career when you sell a screenplay. The director directs the direction the film goes in, what the actor does, your actor needs to talk with the director and only after they are fully prepared - they do just specific things and for a career would be pretty hum drum boring as they just sit in a chair answering questions or tossing you out for not being ready or doing all you are supposed to do with in a certain amount of time. It is pretty much a pre-scripted job that really would not play out well for a hands on job if you ask me - as it is very limited.
