I was thinking the same thing! Being a person who loves to write, I would be thrilled if I got to be the director instead of the actor. And as @liliaeth said, we can already build our own sets so why not take that extra step and let us be the director? I had a similar problem with Dine Out. I wanted not only to own my own restaurant, but to work there as a chef or waiter as well. Why do they keep limiting our options?
Directors are not usually the writer - the screen writer is a different job and actually something you can do in a game under the writer career when you sell a screenplay. The director directs the direction the film goes in, what the actor does, your actor needs to talk with the director and only after they are fully prepared - they do just specific things and for a career would be pretty hum drum boring as they just sit in a chair answering questions or tossing you out for not being ready or doing all you are supposed to do with in a certain amount of time. It is pretty much a pre-scripted job that really would not play out well for a hands on job if you ask me - as it is very limited.
True, but in my head the Director career would kinda work how the acting career works except flipped. For example instead of being called to do auditions for commercials and such, the director would be called with script ideas. They would get a choice of western, commercials, sifi, etc. When the day would come to film, they would have tasks such as hire/fire actors and stylists, direct the scene, give notes. But they would also get to set up the scene. You would get to put up the sets according to whatever the script was but, you would get to choose the stuff they did in the scenes with the little set markers and the special effects. You would essentially be creating the actual story based on a topic you were given. So they technically wouldn't be writing the scripts but you could set up the scene anyway you wanted to so its close enough that it would feel like you had.
