Of course there are rewards traits but it’s not the same. I don’t think traits have that much of on influence on sims though. My sims with the “neat” trait will clean more autonomously and will get uncomfortable moodlets in a dirty environment for instance but that’s all and my squeamish sims will get uncomfortable if they see bugs or gross stuff. (if I see a spider on the other hand I’m probably gonna scream, jump away or try to squish it).
I think traits add more to the sim's personality than no traits at all. I also find that the best way to see the traits behaviour in action is to put the sims in opposite environments. So you can pair a neat sim with a slob on a filthy lot. The neat sim will get uncomfortable and will clean everything while the slob will be just fine and make a mess. Would it help you to have a neat sim on a lot that gets dirty a lot? Yes, it would help, but so can help getting a roomba and a cleaning bot. This way you don't need to give your sim a neat trait and can use that slot for maybe another trait.
