This may be a silly question, but does your sim have the correct homework? There is grade school homework for children and (high school) homework for teens. These are different objects. Just wondering if your sim aged up recently. They usually keep the old homework in their inventory and the new one maybe wasn't added or left somewhere? Otherwise I would try to repair the game, as already suggested.
