Why So Many In Game House Fires

I loaded my game and within a minute or so, the BBQ caught on fire. Twice. Then did it again a few minutes later. I switched households and lo! their kitchen caught on fire too. Did the percentage chance for house fire increase in the latest update? Did I toggle something on in MCCC as I was experimenting with it? Was it just a weird streak of bad luck?
Now, I don't mind a fire once in a while, like it had been doing, but this many all clumped together is making me nervous about cooking dinner in real life. ;)
  • I was able to paly a little while yesterday and the new house seems to not have the hidden Schleprock trait going on, no fires at all. So far, so good!
  • That's a good point about the house traits, I hadn't checked that on a new gallery house dl I was playing. The other house had been in play for a while with good lot traits.
No bad moods but definitely a couple of novice cooks. I've had novice cooks progress just fine before with a fire every now an then, but this was pretty unusual. So, just bad luck on the random event generator?

I never get house fires in Sims 4 - they were horrible fires in Sims 2 and 3 - sometimes in 1 too but love the sprinkler system nothing ever burns and never get a fire death either. Love it. I cannot figure out what you are doing wrong.

Thank goodness I had the fire alarm and sprinkler system but it takes so long for it to activate.
A poster above you talked about that, could be a tweak for IL.
  • Had ANOTHER kitchen fire in that same new household just now. Only one though. Everyone's up to lvl 2 in cooking and the stove is a high end one. Gonna boost everyone to cooking lvl 4 or 5 and then to 10 if the household won't quit trying to incinerate itself. I may rename the house Dante's Inferno and one of the guy sims Dante if this keeps up. ;)

Since the June patch. Until then I did not have a single fire in 5 years. Since the patch fires have been plentiful, almost constant, regardless of stove type or cooking skill level.

I certainly wasn't having this much 'fun' with fire before then, that's for sure. ;)
  • I decided to try something new tonight. I picked another gallery house and plopped it down over the old one. My theory is that the other gallery house was secretly cursed. *Queue dramatic and creepy music* So the family had to exorcise the curse of the bacon fire. Someone made a grilled cheese sandwich and the new house didn't catch fire. Hooray! Knock on wood/holding thumbs.

Stay tuned for the further misadventures of Playing With Fire In Simsville!

*It is most likely a tweak in the last update causing all the ruckus but one has to indulge in one's inner melodrama once in a while.

Just the other day I had the same sim start 2 fires within minutes of each other. Once, trying to put out the fire place. And again trying to grill something! I just sent her to bed for the rest of the day.

See! It isn't just me! I don't blame you for sending her to bed, she was having a really bad day (not to mention being a complete disaster). ;)

I had to turn off emotional deaths via MCCC because the game seemed to be targeting my same Sim. He died twice and was hysterical a third time after rolling back the game save! Had it been a different Sim I would have rolled with it. But not Erik. As for house fires, not so much, here.

I think I read that post the other day, poor Erik. The house fires thing was feeling a lot like your emotional death targeting, weird.
