I'm not trying to be a contrarian, but as a long-time Sims player (since TS1), I am really enjoying TS4 in general, and especially StrangerVille. I know this pack isn't for everyone. Personally, I freaking love it.
No expansion, game pack, or stuff pack will satisfy every person. So I understand that some people will feel frustrated. There are a lot of TS2 features I miss for example. But I have to say: this is the most fun I've ever had in all the years of playing The Sims.
