From the sound of things though, it seems like the game rolls a chance of fated mate with every single romantic interaction? As opposed to rolling, say, once per sim? I don't know, I feel both ways about it... on the one hand it seems like it is too easy as you're more or less guaranteed to be fated to someone if you spam romantic interactions. But on the other hand many players like to pair up particular sims rather than having the game surprise them. What's more invasive, having a fated mate too easily assigned, or being prevented from ever getting the fated mate the player wants?
From what I hear, it's a pretty high/solid chance from your first flirty interactions (not guaranteed obv but if it's RNG by the action itself than all you need to do is spam romance actions until you get it). This is to allow people to easily pair up folks they want as fated mates.
The problem is that it seems to be not solely player driven consequence/result and is sometimes triggered by NPCs flirting with playable sims (or playable sims autonomously flirting because of nice decor).
Personally, Id rather it be strictly player-initiated even if it's too easy. People can mod the difficulty if they want something more engaging/more RNG.
Alternatively, we could be given a prompt choice. Like "Whenever Person A looks at you, your skin begins to flush and you feel funny inside. Could they be your fated mate?" And you have the choice between "Yes, time to embrace fate!" Or "No, its just gas."
And to not make it so easy, you could have a timer between each trigger prompt so it's not THAT easy to get the Fated mate you want, but its also not thrust upon you and there is some level of choice.
