Will the rats, roaches, and leaking pipes ever stop? (Resolved w/Mod! Updated Orig Post.)

I think they might've toned down the critters in one of the patches. The Squarejaws moved into the infested Culpepper apartment, and, while they've had problems with rats, roaches, and smells (and electrical boxes and pipes) it hasn't been overwhelming.
Well, except for the first time Brock Squarejaw tried to OBLITERATE! the mice. It didn't work, so he turned around and, fully dressed, climbed into bed and hid under the covers. I almost fell out of my chair laughing at the poor guy.
Since then he's had the handywoman over and she's fixed some of the issues.
