Last night I actually researched and bought a stick of RAM (4 GB to add to my existing 4 GB). This was my only current option with the machine I have. Now I just have to wait for it to arrive in the slooooow postal system we have in this crazy COVID era.
Thanks for your info/comments. Are there any other simple things I could do that you would suggest? Things that I can just read a little bit about and then do myself, like I'm doing with the RAM? I've done very simple things in the past like putting in new graphics cards and things, so the inside of the tower isn't totally foreign to me, but I still know very little!
I lost my job in the pandemic, so money is very tight, hence I need to do things on the cheap for now. :)
I'm so sorry you lost your job, that's awful. You should definitely be able to play your simmies to have a little fun.
The additional RAM should help. Windows itself requires a couple of GBs to operate so I think 8 is the general rule these days. I would also suggest that while you are playing, shut the origin app down in the task manager. I don't know what is going on with it lately, but since they updated it last I have had occasions where it completely zaps my resources and brings my PC to a crawl. My PC is 3 years old but it still plays the sims just fine under normal circumstances. That thing with the Origin App kills it though.
Here is what my desktop PC is:
System Information
------------------
Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700K CPU @ 4.20GHz (8 CPUs), ~4.2GHz
Memory: 32768MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 32732MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 12
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
Chip type: GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
Display Memory: 27493 MB
My laptop is similar except It only runs at 3.8 GHz or something.
