Bakery Business

I haven't tried bakery yet and would love to know how it works too 😊 I don't own Get to Work, only Businesses and Hobbies.

I haven't tried playing bakery with B&H but from what've seen of gameplay, you need to actually make/bake all the things you're selling and you cannot do automatic re-stock. With Get to Work, you bake stuff once and then just re-stock so you don't get to cook as much unless you want to change what's set for sale. Also, for GTW you need to buy the separate business lot and for B&H you can have the business on your home lot so it's cheaper to start. You can have both type of businesses if you want. 

AaronRulz78​ I've found that the fresh chef trait is essential, it stops the food spoiling. That way you can take a while to stock the bakery and the food will still be fine. To add it with a cheat it's testingcheats true, then use traits.equip_trait trait_FreshChef (for console players, since it requires testingcheats it does disable console achievements). You need additional food in your inventory too in order to restock. My Sim has a bakery with a flat above it that's separate from her main home. She also sells candy there too as well as cupcakes. Some baked goods are sold in her bakery but she sells some directly too, I think of that as selling wholesale. The B&H shelves, etc set items for sale instantly so it's less work than it was setting everything for sale manually with GTW, that's always been my biggest problem with retail.

I have run small businesses but not yet bakeries specifically. 

• you can't restock sold items. You need to actually bake them again and again. You can hire personel and order them to bake for you 
• there is a food display in the game that keeps baked goods longer fresh. There is one in businesses and hobbies, a second one was in the early buyers items. The food displays from get to work should work as well in a small business. (personally I like to use the fresh chef reward trait but that's a lot of work to acquire if you don't want to cheat.)
• You have to set activities for your bakery. You can just tell your customers to just buy goods but you could also add eating if you want to. Or start selling coffee and tea to customers. Whatever type of bakery you want.  

One of my sims switched to the home business bakery from the Get to Work bakery and I loved it so much more. You don't need a cash register and she really doesn't have to do anything except put the stuff in the cases.  I think it helps to talk with the customers so she hangs out there all day when it is open, but the items seem to sell themselves.  Wedding cakes sell well. She also sells candy and the whole family can help without getting paid. When the kids get home from school they will make some candy. But yes, everyday involves some baking to restock so she doesn't open everyday so she has a day to make things. 

This all is so good to know. I have the build, had it for long, but somehow I never was sure should it be retail or small business.

It really is! I have one old spellcaster grandma with fresh chef trait and I think I'm going to start a bakery with her! I have wanted to play with her but haven't really had many ideas what to do, so this is great 😊

I have done a bakery as a small business and a regular business, only difference in this aspect was no customers, not buying anything, and being charged hourly/one time for doing nothing but standing around talking

I have loved running a 'bakery' of one type or another over the years. I used to do it with Get to Work and mainly sold cooked meals and bakery items directly from the Lice Cold Freezer (no need to go through the sale process, it works automatically). I limited my 'ticketed' items to a handful of things at the cash register since I hated dealing with the selling process. 

When the Home Business pack came out I absolutely loved the changes!! Some things I always do on these lots and that I enjoyed (mostly differently with this new pack) are:

• I loved that my butler would help clean up in the business area
• I loved the difference in employees since I was able to hire family members/friends that I knew had skills or even from the same household so I could 'run' them, if needed here and there
• I could assign them cooking/candy-making/baking and they would do it and put it in the freezer autonomously
• I could run the household normally at the same time
• I made tons of money since my sims have great gardening and cooking skills so their sale items are not cheap
• I could sell any type of item they crafted in the store
• I could add the "'Always Waiting' Waiter Station", nano trashcan, sink, coffee/tea maker (and bathroom/s) to the business area for the customers to linger and be comfortable and shop, and unlike with GTW the customers would make tea/coffee, drink it, and clean up dishes autonomously. (I also add a chess table and seating/tables).
• I believe that what I added to the displays and glass display cooler/case the customers could buy autonomously

So... I absolutely loved this new home business pack for my sims in the way I play them!

If it's of any interest to you (if you don't love building) I do have a few lots in the gallery that I played with both Get to Work items and as a home business. (I found that most of the Get to Work items did work for the home business lot. If memory serves I think I found that customers would not purchase directly from the Lice Cold Freezer if it was a home business. However, I did find that adding the freezer was still useful since employees that I directed/assigned to bake or make candy normally placed the item after finished into the freezer? It's been about 8 or more months since I played one of these lots, so I am a bit fuzzy on these details.

This one was made specifically to use with the home business pack, is in a 'garage', and has a small break room/loft bedroom/butler room above and a small kitchen in it's basement:

This one is technically a 'Micro' home (4-bed, 2-bath, small store area).. it's the version I was playing at the time so the design is not slick and there may be items left out (oops), but it was really handy for raising the family and building skills... and they also opened the small 'business' area when they had time to get money:

Be aware that if you create a bakery as a small business and play rotational, when you switch from the bakery owning household to another household all of the bakery items you've made will disappear.
