I want to know this too. I think that it is possible to do that, it would be weird if not..

I missed this message, sorry. I didn't know that it was possible in TS3, I haven't really played it. So, it's likely then that you are able to do that in TS4 too.. I really hope so!

Probably a result of how university was handled in sims 2. In that game you could only send teens to university (or create a young adult student directly). Young adults only existed as students. In sims 2 teens would age up to adult and completely skipped the young adult life stage if they did not go to university.
But as we already have young adults I expect it to work differently. I think it will be more like sims 3, where we also had a young adult life stage in the base game.
I never played sims 3 University but I believe in that game young adults could start studying.
I actually hope not only young adults but also adults and elders can go to university. They are a minority but 'older students' exist in real life.
