With Seasons what does sheltering plants do?

Does anyone know what the effect of sheltering plants (either against the house or in a greenhouse) does? Does it keep the plant producing out of season? I've had plants in greenhouses and it seems like they produce all year long, but trees outside growing against the house (so they are sheltered) stopped producing when out of season. If so, what does sheltering the outdoor plants do?

How is against the house "sheltered"? :o
They are still outside, exposed to the elements.

Oh, no. An overhang won't help.
The idea of the greenhouse is to have the plants in an enclosed controlled environment. Basically, you trick the plants into never knowing that the season changes so they keep doing what they do. ;) (Well, except in TS2. It doesn't matter if trees are in a greenhouse. They are coded to go dormant in Winter no matter what. :D )
  • Yeah, a green house needs at least 4 walls and a roof over it to keep the winter air out, this keeps the plants from getting cold, but plants that have certain season benefits will not get though benefits because the plants don't know what season it is indoors. Also the bee boxes go dormant in the Winter they all go to there b-bedroom in there b-beds and wake up in Spring, unless they are in green house than though Bees work all the time.
  • Thanks all, I guess I thought against the house counted since the roof extended a little over the plants so when I moused over the plants it said they were sheltered. I thought as long as a roof covered the plants, they were sheltered.
  • Thanks @Anmirla and @Sid1701D9. That explains it, just the roof isn't going to do it. I'll have to put the plants in a greenhouse.

You can also shelter plants on a porch with a roof. I do it all time because a lot of my sims have plants but I don't want greenhouses on all the lots.
