Work Is A Grind (kudos to the gurus)

So I'm playing without cheats for a change, and all my sim does is work work work. She's tired when she gets home, and her time to do fun stuff is limited. Also, I'm always worried about my dwindling bank account. So, in other words, it's exactly like real life, LOL. I mean, it's so realistic. I think the gurus got this one right.

I like playing with the doctor career. Active careers are definitely active and even more so with the acting career. My Sim has a family and it feels like she barely spends time with them when she gets home she's tired and inbetween working on her skills for the next gig. So definitely kept busy. Her relationship with her husband actually been slowly dropping. :#

With more of a chance to fail, especially when on set and you didn't practice or research for it. Sim did poorly for a dramatic role and I did all risky everything and she only got one right.

  • I remember back playing Sims 3 it was a joke amongst the community that just reading a book could get you promoted to Surgeon :D now it’s really not as easy as it used to be, I enjoy the difficulty trying to move up the career ladder. Makes the career worth more than being a lowkey book club lol
  • Oh man, the difference in pay between the low ranks of a Job and the high ones is life-changing.
There's one thing I always liked about the Sims 4's Jobs and such.
Back when I first played the Sims series, I was always so bad at getting a maintaining Sim friendships, and with promotions gated behind having a certain number of friends, on top of the proper skills, I could never advance.

In Sims 4, you basically just need the skills, and to not go to Work feeling awful and you're well on your way to riches.
    Or at least sustainability!

Though for me, it always seems like when I have anything leftover after Bills, I'm immediately like "Yes, okay, saving money? Nah, let's get my Sims that new Couch. Oh, and a carpet. Maybe a cute potted plant for her desk." And then I'm right back where I started, but at least with a better-looking home.
  • Coupled with GF, I believe I can now recapture some of what my family had back in Sims3. The Cantrells are a family of seven, Dad and Mom, and five children. This time I created them from the second son and let all of the children be born in-game, although I took the Sim of Erik and substituted his toddler self when it appeared he wasn't going to look like himself. I believe I did the same with the only daughter, too. However, in Sims3, the eldest son followed his father into business. This time, he started out that way, but lost his job when he became a Whistle Blower. It bought him about five minutes' worth of fame. He's now gone into the Stylist career and doing nicely. Their Dad is a Critic, Mom's the artist she always was. Erik is just now a Proper Star, as a singer. Joe, Jr. will become a surgeon. With GF he has the opportunity to become a World Renown Surgeon as he was in Sims3.

I do like how Sims4 is shaping up. I liked it up front, but it just keeps getting better and better. Those moments of realism hit the mark.

That’s why I never do the jobs. Waaaay too crazy to do and help my teens have fun (but, again, realistic!).
  • I like to play without any cheats with ageing on. It's tough but fun at the same time..

Trying to maintain a teenager with a job, boyfriend (or girlfriend), and good grades is next-to-impossible. Teens are a lot like real life - in their few days as teens, they're unbearable. I actually hate them. A few days before they age up, though, they become manageable with their needs and I start to like them again and wish they weren't growing up so quickly. Not sure if it's I finally get used to playing them, or if the game's programmed like that to allow them to "mature" like IRL. (Freshman vs. senior)
  • Try playing an Actor. As long as you do your prep tasks and do exactly what the checklist says when you get to the studio, every gig is a guaranteed promotion.

I love playing active careers even though they can be a bit repetitive. I wish we had a bit more freedom within them but it’s still great to follow sims to work.
