This rarely happens to my Sims, because they are pretty good about dropping their tasks and going on their own. I just wish they would walk really fast or even run instead of do that painfully slow walk lol. My houses are usually very small so they don't usually have far to walk. I also recommend the Steel Bladder trait if you want to stop this from happening. The bladder bar reduces extremely slowly with this trait equipped.
