Nope. Judging by the bare bones watered down sims 4 we got I can only imagine how lacking an online mmo version would have been. To me, what makes the sims the sims would not be possible in an online game. Just because they would have called it "the sims" and you would have gone around interacting with other players using a sim like avatar doesn't make it the sims.
However, I think if they had just gone though with their original idea there wouldn't be so much disappointment. Had it just been an mmo/multiplayer type thing, players like myself would have known from the get go that this wasn't meant to be a true sims game and that it would never be a sequel to the series.
As it is now, it's not the game that the majority of the development time went into creating, and it's not the true sequel to the series we would have gotten had they began development with single player offline in mind. It's just.... incomplete, barren, and lacking focus.
