In TS2, cars originally were part of a pack, then were later patched into the base game...and TS2 had hot tubs in the base game. So, yeah, I do approve of patching hot tubs into the base game. Making former base game content into pack-only content was a scummy idea to begin with.
The patched part was actually an object to allow players to have a driveway so they could also get the cars from Maxis (DLC) which were special autos with many different car brands. Such as Mustang etc. Since Maxis was on a kick to promote a few different brands and models of cars they had entered into a contract to promote those in game with those manufactures, but it wasn't like TS4, to just take a mesh and put it into the base, and then what the player who paid for that mesh has left is actually paid for all the free games they just gave away if they keep doing that.
But, they were still added to the base game, promo or not.
And they don't need to patch the actual pack tubs into the base game. They could patch, like, one cheaper tub into the base game while the pack tubs stay DLC. I'm not saying, "Take the pack tubs and put them in the base game and screw the people who bought the pack." I'm saying, "One cheap tub that's not in the pack being put into the base game sounds reasonable."
I honestly don't see the problem with putting one dinky, cheap hot tub in the base game after the pack has been out for years. Heck, it also would add one more hot tub option for people who DO have the pack, so that's a win for everyone.
All we got in the pack was two cheap looking hot tubs ( a 4 seater or a 8 seater) with a choice of a few colors - not a bunch of different ones. So how does that help?
Yeah, you got two with the pack, then you get a third free one patched in. That's one more tub. How is one more tub, for free, NOT a win? That's like saying, "I bought two sandwiches on my lunch break, then my boss gave everyone in the office a free one, so how does that help me?" How? You just got one more sandwich for free. That's how.
I would have not bought the pack if we were getting a free hottub. I only wanted the pack for the hot tub because we were told none of the devs that made eps planned to make a hot tub - so if we wanted a hot tub we had to buy it in the sp. I basically spent 10 dollars just to have a hot tub and because my Sims games had always had a hot tub. No other reason did I buy it but the fact we were told it was the only way we could have one.
On top of it - my Sims almost never go near the thing - unlike past games when you couldn't keep them out of it - i practically have to force Sims to use it - and visitors never join them either. But anyway - the fact is I bought it only because we were told that was the only way we'd get one. Makes me feel if they offered a free one now - well those of us who paid 10 bucks just to have one - were lied to.
But this is exactly what they are doing with CAS assets and some other objects and or gameplay such as photography. GTW offered photography and the camera, but they patched that into the basegame. Then added another pack where if you actualy want the Sims to pose correctly this time, you have to buy the pack (which improves the camera and just made it larger and a few more bhavs) but the insult is when they offered into the basegame photography I paid for in GTW. And others who have other packs paid for particular clothes in CAS they have now patched into basegame. Those who are paying for packs are somewhat being short changed already, because they have been doing these things for awhile now.
ETA: someone listed at least ten or more items or gameplay that came in packs that have been patched into basegame. That list is here somewhere. Mainly clothes but many people buy stuff or EPs or GPs for clothes.
