I know a lot of people want an actual singing CAREER, but all we really need I think are self employed careers to make a return from sims 3.

using the karaoke machine doesn’t make you a professional singer...
So I think it’s safe to say the entertainment career will be the best route for now.
You can barely make much tips being a DJ unless your using a mod !

Except I never once said it was a playabe career, I said the opposite actually.

It specifically says you can be a famous singer, there just isn't a dedicated career.

I would like self-employment back too. It bothers me that when I hover over my writer sim, her career says "stay-at-home-parent". Ahhhh, she is not a house wife, she is busy working and writing! lol

*Not that there is anything wrong with her being a stay at home parent, but it just doesn't apply in this case

I guess a career would be cool if they did something different with it but if they are going to use more of the things we already have I prefer that getting more excited to just see everything.

Hmm... I think that there are mods to do that. If you are interested in modding I would perhaps google Road To Fame. Know about it because another forumite @GalacticGal has a famous singer-sim and and think she uses that mod.

Hi, just to follow up on the singer Sim notion. Yes, I do use Sacrificial's Road to Fame mod. Specifically, you want the one that is updated to the latest game version PC: / Mac: 1.63.134.1220. When you install it, extract all into its own folder. Place that folder into your Mods folder. I simply name said folder Road to Fame. I also use a mod called Showtime by KS. It helps your Sim accrue celebrity much faster than both GF and RTF combined. When you set RTF, click on it in the menu and go into Options. Make sure you enable both Get Famous and Road to Fame. Have your Sim create a Simstagram account and I have mine do the upkeep autonomously. Some of the options can be a tad confusing, just play around with it until all seems to be working the way you want it. I also make sure my Sim has modeling available. This adds another dimension to the fame. Once your Sim gains notoriety, and gains in modeling skill, they'll be invited to photoshoots to be on the cover of a magazine. Work on their skill by having them scroll through modeling on their cell phone. You'll find this under Modeling once you click on the Road to Fame menu. Likewise, your Sim can respond to their Simstagram followers by clicking on Simstagram inside the RTF menu. The more followers they gain, the faster they rise. Also, the 'hotter' your Sim is in appearance, and this can be checked through the modeling menu (and there is a cheat available in the RTF menu to boost their heat) the more likely they'll be invited to those photoshoots.

With Showtime, you simply Choose a profession, of which there are a few. Singer is near the bottom of that list. This will allow your Sim to get invited to gigs. Before I had both of these mods, it took some time to get my Sim to Global Superstar. Once I had the expansion GF, plus the two mods, I've had a teen Sim become a Global Superstar in 16 Sim days. Mind you, I also use MCCC and was able to give the teens and their little brother the summer off. I also use a mod that allows for 21 days for Seasons. Inside of those three weeks, Erik made the big time.

Also, once your Sim earns enough HitBeat Points (100/100) is the required amount, then they can perform concerts. You will need to find or build a venue. There are some really nice ones I found in the Gallery. Look under #RTF. There is also a mechanism provided by the mod which is basically a combination of the karaoke machine (the simple one) and the microphone. You'll need this in your venue in order for your Sim to perform.

I had some mods to help me have a singer Sim again. I hold great hope that with GF I'll be able to achieve it, at last. I'm just looking for the fame (check) and money to help him earn a living. (I also have MCCC and there is an ability to give a Sim money, so if my Sim doesn't earn what I think he should, I've got that covered.) I'm well-pleased we're getting this EP. It came as a complete surprise, since we were under the notion we'd only get one EP a year and we just got Seasons. EA, you are tricky, but I don't mind so long as the withheld information comes as a rather pleasant surprise, in the long run.
