Your High School Years Rating!

Ok, I haven't done one of these since the university pack I believe BUT I am genuinely curious how everyone will rate this pack in particular.

Please remember, though, as always: this is supposed to be a helpful thread for those who are still on the fence about buying this pack. Also: feel free to voice your opinions, but don't go attacking others for theirs. And try to be at least a tiny bit objective ;)

So, without further ado: on a scale from 1 to 10 - 1 being "I wish I could return this atrocity" and 10 being "Simtastic, best pack ever" - how would YOU rate High School Years?

  • I'm enjoying it a lot. I've had so much fun with playing teens now. The aging bug is annoying and I can't play my regular families because I don't want to risk my saves, but the temporary save that I've been playing works well with aging off completely.
I don't have more game breaking bugs and even high school actions don't seem to have any huge problems.
I haven't tried everything yet, so maybe there will be some hiccups later, but my first impression of HSY is very good. :)
  • I think solid 7. In my opinion it’s similar to Snowy Escape, because despite being literally for teens, it’s pretty limited and not integrated with other packs like Parenthood. It sort of floats in the air. But as it is, it works well with few hiccups here and there.

I think school lot being so big is waste of space. I would prefer smaller school as this monster isn’t necessary, and have one more lot with some sort of after school activity. Maybe active football and cheer or all of the extra classes?

I’m disappointed with townies, after werewolves pack where we got some truly unique sims. Here the only one that’ shines is Ash (both story and design), others feel super generic, even principle and her daughter.

I like the fact that all pre made teens attend school and they can finally meet in one place together. I wish they could truly actively participate in class, but I’m not super salty about how it is. At least they gain some skills during class so it’s not complete waste.
The pier is fantastic, my fav location in this pack especially creepy music from Ferris wheel. I like the randomness of cuddle cart that they can literally lost some romance. My sim got pop up about corny design inside, which was hilarious. New clothes for females are great, male part is disappointing especially hair department. My sim had a son and I play HS with him so I’m a little sad that his mom got cooler clothes and hair from new pack than he did.

I can’t give it higher score because to fully have the HS and teen experience I need other packs, namely Get Together (clubs, parties) and Parenthood (interactions with family and other teens).

Edit: and social bunny is fun for the first time, like first 2 hours of playing and then messages start to repeat and have absolutely nothing in common with life events. Example: my teen is the party animal teen so I made him organize dance party in the night club. It went well he became fast friends with all attending teens. I was 100 % sure there will be option to post about it on social bunny but it wasn’t. Instead the game told me:” go out and experience something to talk about it.” In moments like this the spell is broken and shallowness comes to the surface. But it’s a nice storytelling feature anyway. Just wish it could be more in sync with my sims, not so freaking generic.
  • I have only had time to look at cas and build mode so can't rate it for the full pack yet. But its a 10 super simtastic for what I saw in cas and build mode :) will come back and poll rate it once I had gameplay time ;)
  • I like the pack, I do. Build/Buy is nice, I like the art deco style and the style of the furniture (like the desks, chairs, etc). I enjoy some of the builds that the Game Changers and other folks are posting on the gallery. I've already changed out the Thriftea in Copperdale and changed out the high school as well. I like the ideas/concepts but glitches throw me off.

Now my issue is really the bugs; the weird wants to date family members, the ability for adult sims to date teens, the fact that teachers/principal look like the teens, the glitches with the rounded walls, the inability to sneak out with the EZ window, the issues with graduation, etc. That really takes away from the enjoying of the new pack.

Also I am a bit confused personally about the sexual orientation thing bc my straight sims still get crushes on same-sex sims? Am I missing something here? xD
  • It's difficult for me to separate out the bugs from the intended gameplay, right now, but I really like the pack's basic premise and the world. However, I don't like some of the creative decisions, such as not being able to have clubs at school when using the get together clubs or the lack of cross pack compatibility, particularly with parenthood. The tuning for wants and fear could be better too.

I've been having a great time with this. Teens were never my favorite -- they disappeared into a rabbit hole for 7 hours, then worked a part-time job, and were too exhausted to do more than have a mood swing or two. Once I had Parenthood, I mostly worked at getting some good character traits for them to carry into adulthood.

But these teens are fun. I love the way they wave both hands when making introductions. I love Social Bunny, which I expected to hate. And there are so many unexpected moments. One of my Sim's classmates was cross because she hated the furniture in the classroom. Her afternoon class had a fire drill that sent them out into a thunderstorm. Besides picking up skill in writing in one class, she also got archaelogy and Selvadoradian culture. And although there aren't uniforms, apparently my Sim will wear an outfit related to her club (the computer club) on days when she has a meeting. You can figure out what clubs other teens are in by what they wear. I'm keeping Social Bunny and the Pier for teens mainly, to help keep their identity.

I'm not at all disappointed that I can't build the high school in any world; it's the Sims High School like the Hospital and Police Station. And does it really matter where the Get Together clubs meet? But people set their hopes on something and then get upset when that doesn't happen. And the only bug I've had has been the one that came with the patch, that affects aging.

This pack has made teens more alive, something I didn't think possible. After Seasons, I'd say it's the Number 2 must-have expansion pack.
