A question related to organizing the Mods folder & other things...

I know that script files can't go beyond 1 folder deep in the mods folder, but could each of the Sims have their files, except for script files and tray files, in a separate folder?

For Example: C:\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods\<Sim Name>

What I mean is the skins, hair, clothes items...so if something is amiss with, say, a skin file, it won't be a huge hassle to find it and remove it. Or would that be too much? I have several premade Sims that I want to add to the game and also keep it somewhat tidy, so if there's an issue with a file, I won't spend days trying to find the issue.

  • Firstly, edit your Resource.cfg file, it is in your mods folder. Use Notepad, or similar if you are using a non MS operating system. Use this entire block of text

    Priority 500
    PackedFile *.package
    PackedFile */*.package
    PackedFile */*/*.package
    PackedFile */*/*/*.package
    PackedFile */*/*/*/*.package
    PackedFile */*/*/*/*/*.package

    Priority 600
    PackedFile Override/*.package
    PackedFile Override/*/*.package
    PackedFile Override/*/*/*.package
    PackedFile Override/*/*/*/*.package
    PackedFile Override/*/*/*/*/*.package

    Priority 1000
    PackedFile *.package
    PackedFile */*.package
    PackedFile */*/*.package
    PackedFile */*/*/*.package
    PackedFile */*/*/*/*.package
    PackedFile */*/*/*/*/*.package
    PackedFile Overides/*/*/*/*/*.package

Then, it is time to begin adding folders to your mods folder to better sort your CC

For instance add CAS folder, inside that add folders for all clothing types, Hair, Makeup, Traits, Custom Sliders.

Add folder for gameplay mods, build mode CC, Scripts, etc, this will make it a lot easier to keep track of mods and CC, and a lot easier to chase game crashing mods after updates.

    I hope this helps.

  • Thanks for that information....I've already got that started, but was wondering if I could have all of the CC for a sim in a folder (except for tray files) for a particular sim. It would be like the MCCC file, but it would be for a Sim unless that would be a problem for the game to recognize the CC.

    EX: C:\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods\Sim's Name

I don't see why not. You can put any cc in a folder and stack new folders within it for jewery and make up, ect...
