Broken files.

Hello

First of all, I would like to say english is not my first language, so excuse me for any grammar error.

Since practically today I've been having big problems with my Sims 4 game, and I've been looking for a solution for this and I haven't found anything yet and im very impatient.

Just some time ago I uninstalled the game because I wanted to clear out more space on my pc and just today I wanted to install it again, only to find out that when I uninstalled the game previously, I hadn't took out my "mods" folder neither my "saves" folder from the Sims 4 folder before uninstalling the game, practically meaning I had lost them all.

But I got to download a program to recover all of my lost files, and luckily I found the files from both folders, and I was ready to put them on again on the new Sims 4 folder, however, at first it showed an error about my cc and that they were outdated, I started deleting the ones that the error had marked as broken cc but the problem didn't seem to fix, long story short, all of a sudden, ALL of the cc who I had always used was now broken and made it impossible to start the game. I figured that if I just took out the "mods" folder it would let me start the game, and it did, however I still tried putting one cc on the folder to see if it was really all of them or not. First I had tried ONLY adding the newest cc so the Sims wouldn't give me an error for it being "outdated", and it didn't, so I just I had to delete the old ones. But before I even did that, I started the game to see my saved slots, and, apart from the one I had previously uploaded to the gallery that let me play with, none of my newer slots were working. I checked the names of the slots and they matched with the ones in the "saves" folder, however my sims were not on the thumbnail, instead there was a silhouette of a family.

I suppose the recovery of those files didn't repair them, making them unreadable? I honestly have no idea, thats the conclusion I made but it still doesnt show any solution for me.

I'd literally do anything to get my files back, I've put a lot of hours on my household and it just got deleted because of a mistake as simple as that.

I really need help right now, thanks.

  • @giqnos7asp3p  Unfortunately, I'm not sure there's anything you can do here.  I've seen numerous examples of players using a data recovery program but failing to recover usable saves.  I don't know exactly why this is other than that Sims 4 may not be able to read even a slightly damaged save.  But I've seen enough examples to know this is a common problem.

One thing you can try, if you want, is recovering all the backup copies of your saves.  Maybe you'll get lucky and find one that's intact enough for the game to read.  Use the manual method here:

    Hello

Sadly the solution you gave didn't work for me.

However, do you think that I could fix this with a file repair program?

And if so, are you able to recommend one?

@giqnos7asp3p  No, I don't think a file repair program would have any effect.  Where data is missing, the program would probably just guess or provide a reasonable substitute, which is simple enough for a commonly-used file type.  (Imagine a spreadsheet with a few now-blank entries but that is otherwise intact.)  But I doubt any program could guess or caluclate what the missing data should be for a Sims 4 save file.

Unfortunately, there's nothing else you can do here.  I know it doesn't help you now, but this is why it's always critical to make frequent backups of your essential files.  You never know when something will happen to your computer, and having a recent backup means you're never in danger of losing everything.
