Broken Gameplay Buttons?

Hi- so I've been playing the Sims 4 on a MacBook for about a year now.  This has happened before, but never quite like this? Can someone explain a possible way to fix this? It makes the game pretty much unplayable. Basically, all the buttons that appear on-screen for gameplay are either gone, or are switched out with another emblem. Before, checkmarks were turned into trash cans, but I didn't have any other issues with it. I can't insert a screenshot into the post. I've tried repairing the game over and over again, but nothing helps.

    @laylakinz Do you have mods or CC in your Mods folder? If so, do a "vanilla" test to see if a mod/CC is your problem: Drag the Mods folder to the desktop, delete the file called localthumbcache, open the game to test, and exit without saving.

    @luthienrising hiii!! thank you so much for your help + sorry for the extremely late response!! i did the vanilla test, and it turns out that it is in fact custom content that is the problem. is there anything i should do next?

    @luthienrising thank you so much, I did the 50-50 straight away and almost immediately found what was wrong. so glad i can finally play again 🙂
