Cannot start because game data is missing or damaged

About a week ago, my PC stopped working and I had to take it to get fixed. Basically they had to remove some kind of corrupt file and transfer all of my data in the process. I got my PC back today and had to redownload The Sims. I have around 2500 mods + CC or more and it's very sacred to me lol

When I tried to open it, I got an error message saying one of my files was corrupted. It listed a CC or mod and I deleted it, but it just showed another corrupted file was stopping my game from starting. It went on and on. I tried the halving process but now I'm getting this message:

Unable to start: Cannot start because game data is missing or damaged. If you have Mods installed please remove them and try again. If not, please repair or reinstall the game via Origin. [de4ee14f:29f00e76:00000000:4b0d852b]

I'm really frustrated and have been scanning the internet and every forum, trying everything I can but nothing seems to work. I've reinstalled, repaired, and tried to figure out if it was a singular mod, but the game wouldn't work with either halves of the mods, and wouldn't even work with smaller fractions either. Is there anything I can do?? I really don't want to lose all my mods because i've spent years collecting all of them as stupid as it sounds

  • @harperrr12  It is entirely possible, unfortunately, that your mods and custom content were corrupted during the data transfer.  To test, please download a fresh copy of one mod or cc item known to be compatible with the current patch level (1.88) and test it.  If it works, but none of your current ones do, the only thing you can do is redownload everything.

If the new mod or cc item doesn't work, move your Mods folder to the desktop, delete localthumbcache.package, and start the game to create a new Mods folder, then repeat the test.

  • I have had similar issues every time when starting the game for about a month now. I didn't do anything to my PC though (that I know of), so it came out of the blue. In my case, none of the mods or cc are actually broken/corrupt but for some reason, the game won't start with all of them. I have to remove the entire folder, open the game, close it, add a few mods/cc at a time and open the game each time in between. Yes, every. single. time!

Whenever it is a mod or cc that's causing a problem that pop-up message always includes the exact file(s) and location, so the general "it's-a-problem" ones have never been due to actual mods/cc or missing files for me.

It's really tedious, but if the game won't start at all and you can't seem to narrow down what mod/cc is causing it, it might be worth a try since it's entirely possible it's not the mods/ccs fault. I have 5002 files in total with maybe 10 being actual mods and the rest cc, which sounds like a lot but my PC should have no issues running them all and, as I said, they do if I start the game over and over adding a few at a time. I'll assume yours are powerful enough to do the same.

Idk if it's remotely the same issue but that's what I do for now while trying to find a solution that doesn't include having to trash and redownload 5000 mods/cc. Hope you get it sorted without having to sacrifice your mods and cc 🙂
