I viewed an object at the museum, then got the message that a shard of time was added to my sim's inventory. However, it is not there. The task panel changed to asking an elder about the time shard, but the option to ask does not appear on the social menu, presumably because I have not got the shard. I left the game without saving, but the events menu did not reset. So basically, the entire event is jammed for me now.
Thanks for reminding me of that! I removed TOOL mod and the option to ask the elder appeared. :)
I have to admit that I didn't read the message so I'm not sure what they said but could you post a screenshot of the task you're currently seeing ?
Are you using mods/cc ?

And why did I get a message after viewing it that the shard had been added, even though it hadn't? The task to ask the elder only appeared afterwards, so I couldn't have done it first. And now I cannot ask the elder, because there is no option for this on the social menu. I saw some people say you can buy the shard from the mailbox, but that option also does not appear in my game. I am completely stuck. :( Please help me.
The shard of time shouldn't be added to your inventory by viewing an object in the museum.
You should first ask the elder, then research and then you search for the shards.
Is the elder task what you currently need to do ?
