Can't follow sim to highschool

I cannot follow my teenage sim to highschool.

I play with mods and custom content, however, I took out all of my mods and tried to follow my sim to school and I was still unable to, in fact my sims do not automatically go to school at all, I have to manually click the go to school button.

I do have follow messages turned on.

I tried to do a factory reset but upon putting my saves in, when I tried to load my household I was stuck on the loading screen. I tried taking out folders one at a time, assuming it may be a custom content issue but when I took out a folder (along with my mods) I couldn't load into my household either.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling (which took a whole day because of the ea app's ridiculous downloading speeds) and it still didn't work.

I tried repairing my game, didn't work.

I don't know what to do at this point. Either I wasted my money on this pack, or the game is completely unplayable. Please someone help, I've spent two days trying to fix this.

(I tried attaching my save file but it said unsupported extension type?)

  • I too am having the same exact problems it seems as though every time it an update its a problem. I too took out all of my customers content and placed it on my desktop I turned off the allow cc and script mods in the others screen on the game. I restarted three times and still nothing. It really frustrating at this point because I spent money on a game that isn't working as well. I tried to google the problem and it seem like people were saying its a certain cc and that's not even the case. I guess since we are the only one that are complaining about the issue it might go unanswered. Im going to put all my cc back into my game until I guess others start having the same issue and the problem is resolved. before I logged onto ea I thought I was the only one that was experiencing the problem until I cam across your post and this too happened to me yesterday when I decided to age up my kid to a teen after playing the sim as a child for so long.

Also has anyone had a problem where there toddlers get these really long legs before they move to an area that you command them to go in?

  • Yeah it’s a corrupt save. I tried on two new saves and it worked, so I just decided to move my sims to a new save, I haven’t checked to see if it works yet. Do you know any other way I can uncorrupt it other than a factory reset which hasn’t worked out for me?

  • Purchased the high school pack recently and grew up child to teenager. Problem is 8 am came and it was no notification for sim to go to school. I have the notification button toggled to on so that's not the issue. removed all the mods out of game I only had two and it wasn't the one I see everyone has about some preteen. removed the local cache out as well. reset the game, loaded it and still 8 am came and no notification. tried to have sim travel to school way before it started and teacher claimed I skipped school for the day. I just want to know if someone else is having the problem and could someone from EA respond or even the sims team because the is a major bug that needs to be fixed..

@LatiaLi   Hi!  That's really annoying.  I wonder if you could try creating a new save with a teen in the household to see if it works there.  Please play the new save without any mods and also delete that localthumbcache file again before opening the game.

If you don't mind can you explain how would I do that? cause at this point I'm so done with playing this game until they fix this issue cause we should be able to play this game that we pay all this money for without removing anything that we actually enjoy using..btw Im using a IMAC....and when I tried to remove my sims and put them in the gallery it didn't even save in my library.

@LatiaLi   I'm really sorry you're having trouble with this.  Your post was merged with an existing thread, so you can see that you're not alone.

The easiest way to remove mods is to go to your Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 folder and drag the Mods folder to your desktop or some other location.  When you launch the game again, a new Mods folder will be generated in the TS4 folder.  The localthumbcache file is in the same TS4 folder.  Delete that before opening the game.

It's probably a good idea to use a brand new family in the new save.  When you open the game, click the New Game button and follow the prompts.  In CAS, perhaps you could just randomize the sims since you just want to test the follow to HS part.  The Crick Cabana in Willow Creek is probably a good lot for the test sims to live in since it has beds for the parents and the teen.  New Games start on Sunday in the game so you'll have to wait a bit before the Monday school time.

If the school follow works in the new save without any mods then you know that was the reason and you can then use that new save to test your mods.  Click the spoiler below for the steps I use for testing.  I realize all of this is a tedious process but it's the best way to know if the school follow was broken by a mod and it will be worth it to fix your game.

    Spoiler

    1. Create a new game for testing so that your current save is left unchanged until you've identified the problem mods/CC.

    2. Create some folders on your desktop; perhaps one labeled "Tested Safe Mods-CC", another labeled "Mods-CC Needs Testing" and one more labeled "Broken Mods-CC" so you know which ones to check for updates. This will keep tested mods/CC separated.

    3. Exit the game if you haven't already, and divide your mods/CC in half; put one half in the Needs Testing folder and put/keep the other half into the Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 / Mods folder.

    4. Delete the localthumbcache.package file, located in the Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 folder before opening the game with the half you're testing,

    5. If the game works with that half, exit the game, move that half to the Safe Mods-CC folder and move the remaining "Needs Testing" mods back to the Mods folder to test (Again, delete that cache file before opening the game.)

    6. Once you know which half is causing the issue, divide those in half, keeping one half in the "Needs Testing" folder and one half in your Mods folder, and test again (delete the cache file each time after moving mods/CC and before opening the game) and moving mods/CC not causing problems into the Safe folder.

    7. Repeat this process until you find all that are broken.

As for not seeing your sims in your Library, that's weird.  Every time you start a game, the sims you create and play on a lot should be automatically saved in your Library.  Did you use any CC on those sims?  Maybe you just need to check the box on the left side to Include Custom Content to see them.
