Okay, so I haven't updated the game today because I can't be bothered to go through this again.
But in case this helps somebody, this is what I did after my game failing to launch after the 17th March update (I play on Mac)
And I don't play with mods only CC.
1.) Fully exit the EA app.
2.) From your The Sims 4 folder Delete all files that say "cache." Localthumbcache, avatarcache, the cachestr folder. Create a copy of the The Sims 4 file and copy it on the desktop, then changing the name to The Sims 4 back up.
3.) Delete the original The Sims 4 file (make sure you have copied it first)
4.) Open the EA app. Then delete cache (On EA app -> Help ->App recovery ->Clear cache
5.) Open the game. As the EA file is empty a new The Sims 4 is created. Enable mods and then exit the game.
6.) Transfer each folder from your The Sims 4 back up copy, one by one into the new The Sims 4 folder. When it tells you there's already one with the same name, click replace. I replaced my Mod folder all at once and it still works.
7.) Before launching the game, I repaired it. And then it's been working fine since, all CC is in the game. I've been playing offline today though, don't want to go through this again lol
I've used this "trick" in previous messy updates and seems to work every time.
Hope this helps someone.
